For The First Time, Astronauts Have Entered China's Orbiting Space Station

The first astronauts arrived at China's new space station on Thursday in the country's longest crewed mission to date, a landmark step in establishing Beijing as a major space power.

The trio blasted off on a Long March-2F rocket from the Jiuquan launch centre in northwest China's Gobi desert, and their craft docked around seven hours later at the Tiangong station, where they will spend the next three months.

Scientists achieve ultra-fast optical orbiting of nanoparticles at subdiffraction scale

In addition to the linear momentum of light being transferable, the angular momentum of light can also be transferred to an object, thus causing object rotation. Since the conversion of momentum is usually derived from the linear interaction between light and objects, the orbital rotation speed and orbital radius have so far been limited to no more than 100 Hz in water and no less than one micrometer, respectively.

Recently, however, a team led by Prof. Jiang Yuqiang from the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with Prof. Qiu Chengwei from the National University of Singapore, Prof. Yang Yuanjie from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and Prof. Xiao Liantuan from Shanxi University, has overcome these limits.

SpaceX's next astronaut launch for NASA delayed a week by 'visiting traffic' at space station |

Heavy traffic at the International Space Station (ISS) has pushed SpaceX's next crewed launch to the orbiting lab for NASA back a week.

SpaceX's Crew-3 mission is now targeted to launch no earlier than Oct. 31 — a delay from the Oct. 23 date that was announced in April , NASA officials said in a statement on Monday (June 14).

The agency said the decision was made due to "visiting vehicle traffic" but provided no other details. Spaceflight Now's global launch calendar shows that a robotic Russian Progress cargo spacecraft is set to dock with the ISS on Oct. 28, an event that requires extensive crew time for unloading equipment, supplies and experiments.

NASA commemorates Juneteenth with historic view from space | Space

Saturday, June 19 marks Juneteenth , officially Juneteenth National Independence day and also known as Jubilee Day, Emancipation Day and Black Independence Day, which celebrates the end of slavery in the U.S.

The holiday commemorates June 19, 1865 — a day when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally able to claim their freedom when Union troops proclaimed freedom for slaves in Texas, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, a federal order ending slavery. While Lincoln's proclamation freed many slaves in the U.S., it was initially ignored by many Confederate states.
