People first drove on the Moon 50 years ago today | Engadget

Scott and Irwin would eventually drive the rover two more times (for a total of three hours) before returning to Earth. The Apollo 16 and 17 missions each had an LRV of their own.

Early development was problematic, in no small part due to the lack of real-world testing conditions. They couldn't exactly conduct a real-world test drive, after all.

Disruptive by Design: Shoot the Moon | SIGNAL Magazine

EME is a radio technique that transmits radio waves from the Earth and reflects them off the moon's surface to be received at another terrestrial location.

But with the ever-increasing portfolio of means by which to target artificial satellites, EME is once again relevant, and urgently so. Given its size, the moon cannot be destroyed by current human intervention.

Astro Bob: The Loneliness of the Last Quarter Moon | Park Rapids Enterprise

Last quarter is a funny phase. It has the same shape as an evening half-moon but flipped. Instead of the right half lit by sunlight, the left half is. A first quarter moon has completed a quarter of its orbit around the Earth, while a last quarter moon has completed 3/4 of the trip.

This diagram illustrates the primary and best-known lunar phases we'll see this month and through mid-August. (NASA / JPL-Caltech)

Why Gil Scott-Heron's "Whitey on the Moon" still feels relevant today | Salon.com

Not long after the July 20, 1969, Moon landing , Gil Scott-Heron – a poet hailed as the " Godfather of Rap " – released a scathingly critical song called " Whitey on the Moon ."

I don't recall precisely when I first heard "Whitey on the Moon." But I distinctly remember the cadence and flow sounding so much like the kinds of rap I appreciate today as a hip-hop scholar and lyricist.
