SETSER: Magic, what the eyes can't see | Local News | valdostadailytimes.com

Magic has fallen on hard times in America seeing as how most people simply don't believe in the spiritual realm above us but David Blaine wants to change that. He said, "I'd like to bring magic back to the place it used to be 100 years ago."

It seems to me that our country has settled into a place in between: we wouldn't mind believing in ghosts part-time, just not full-time.

How to cook a squirrel | Daily Inter Lake

During my 26-plus years at the Daily Inter Lake, I've gotten a lot of unusual calls from Flathead folks on a number of topics.

I've been asked to check out UFO sightings, dig up obituaries from a hundred years ago and find a particular recipe from the Flavor section a reader had inadvertently tossed out. I've taken calls with all kinds of alleged news "tips" to check out this or that. Some made stories, some didn't.

Restaurant review: Pickled Restaurant & Bar in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE — A welcome and fun new addition to the downtown dining scene is Pickled Restaurant & Bar. The interior vibe is industrial and rustic with large windows, exposed ceilings, wooden pillars and cement floors.

But the wooden tables, wainscoted booths and blue and white rattan chairs deliver a posh French bistro feel which is clean and chic. A very long bar faces wall-to-wall windows lined with shelves creating a light and airy greenhouse setting.

The Weight and Tenderness of the Present in “After the Sun” – Chicago Review of

Jonas Eika—author of After the Sun , translated into English by Sherilyn Nicolette Helberg—has managed to do the impossible; or, at least, the very difficult. He's written a book that both feels bleeding-edge now, and seems like it will still feel bleeding-edge in a decade.

"Bad Mexican Dog" is the story split into two parts, more or less a novella. It follows a group of "beach boys," a number of underage boys who work on a beach resort in Cancun, getting drinks and snacks, fanning and applying lotion to guests, and all vying to be hired as someone's "personal boy.
