EXPLAINER: Robots and Olympics — a potent photo combination - ABC News

BEIJING -- A figure skater framed only by ragged ice gazes up, almost beseechingly. A goaltender sprawls inside a net, defeat written all over his limbs, even with his face obscured.

The images don't read "(AP Photo/Robot)," though. Good old-fashioned photography skills and instinct are integral to making them.

KUKA robots play key role in University of Michigan NSF Grant research

As part of a $2 million National Science Foundation Grant, robots from KUKA Robotics are helping the University of Michigan (U of M) advance research that could result in robots working side-by-side with humans on building construction sites.

The resulting symbiotic human-robot teams could then be widely deployed in the construction industry. The future human construction worker would then be responsible for high-level work planning and would transition to the role of robot programmer and supervisor.

Liquid metal and kirigami make shape changing robots | SYFY WIRE

Michael Bartlett and colleagues from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Soft Materials and Structures Lab at Virginia Tech are taking that philosophy to its extreme by building malleable soft robots capable of changing their shapes.

"We looked at the octopus as something very soft and very functional. We wanted a machine that was highly deformable so that it could occupy different shapes and perform different functions," Bartlett told SYFY WIRE. "We also wanted it to be able to reverse itself to its initial

When robots are everywhere, what happens to the data they collect?

When a social robot in a public space is wearing nothing but a sticker to declare its allegiance, it is extremely difficult to trust and verify that the robot really reports to the entity emblazoned on the sticker.

Robots, either on their own or through human controllers, can mimic human behaviors in a way that might encourage individuals to take an action that is not in their interest.

6 Common Robots.txt Issues & And How To Fix Them

Robots.txt is a useful and relatively powerful tool to instruct search engine crawlers on how you want them to crawl your website.

It is not all-powerful (in Google’s own words , “it is not a mechanism for keeping a web page out of Google”) but it can help to prevent your site or server from being overloaded by crawler requests.
