We Must Unravel Jupiter's Cryptic Origin Story to Find ET

No one is quite sure exactly how the fifth planet from the sun formed and how it got where it is.

The model combines a lot of findings from a range of space sciences. There are rules for how ice and vapor behave in space, especially in close vicinity to a star.

Dramatic atmospheric features in Jupiter's northern hemisphere are captured in this view from NASA's Juno spacecraft.

The Solar System may have lost the original "Planet Nine"

The Solar System's current planetary orbits seem stable, but that's only because the planets have settled into them over billions of years .

Now an international team of astrophysicists thinks they have a better understanding of that process, and they believe it could help solve a long-standing argument about the early Solar System.

Scientists Want to Send A Message Across the Galaxy. Will ET Understand? - The Debrief

“The significance of a finding that there are other beings who share this universe with us would be absolutely phenomenal," astrophysicist and prolific science communicator Carl Sagan once said of the scientific search for ET . "It would be an epochal event in human history.

Starwatch: pre-dawn delight as moon meets Jupiter and Mars | Astronomy | The Guardian

There is a delightful grouping of planets and the moon to look forward to in the pre-dawn sky this week. On 25 May, the moon will meet Jupiter and Mars low in the east just before sunrise.

Don't be late, the view will not last long, as the rapidly approaching dawn will wash their light from the sky. The farther south you are, the easier it will be to see. From Sydney, Australia, the group will appear much higher in a dark sky in the early hours of the morning.

Voyager 1 has left the Solar System. Will we ever overtake it? - Big Think

Humanity’s first spacecraft to encounter Jupiter, that gravitational assist accelerated it beyond escape velocity.

After entering interstellar space in 2012, it continually recedes ~17 km with each additional second.

Despite a boost/redirect by Jupiter while journeying to Pluto, it won’t catch either Voyager.
