China rolls out rocket for Shenzhou-14 crewed mission - SpaceNews

HELSINKI — China is preparing to launch three astronauts to its Tiangong space station to oversee a crucial phase of construction of the orbital outpost.

The Long March 2F rocket was rolled out to the pad at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert early on May 29. The 62-meter-long rocket was transferred vertically across the roughly 1,500 meters from the assembly building to the pad at no faster than 30 meters per minute.

Ultracold gas bubbles on the space station could reveal strange new quantum physics | Space

While it might be a comfortable 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius) inside the International Space Station (ISS), there's a small chamber onboard where things get much, much colder — colder than space itself.

In NASA's Cold Atom Lab aboard the ISS , scientists have successfully blown small, spherical gas bubbles cooled to just a millionth of a degree above absolute zero, the lowest temperature theoretically possible. (That's a few degrees colder than space !

NASA's newest invention could solve a major space exploration problem

NASA is planning a mission to demonstrate the ability to repair and upgrade satellites in Earth's orbit.

The first test flight of OSAM-1 is scheduled for launch no earlier than 2026 and will go to low Earth orbit to rendezvous, grapple, and dock with Landsat 7, an Earth-observing satellite that has been in orbit since 1999.

Hubble telescope spots 'Hidden Galaxy' behind Milky Way | Space

This glorious Hubble Space Telescope image showcases spiral galaxy IC 342, also known as Caldwell 5. No matter what you call this galaxy , scientists have had some difficulty observing it due to obstacles in the way, earning it its "hidden" nickname, according to NASA.

"It appears near the equator of the Milky Way 's pearly disk, which is crowded with thick cosmic gas, dark dust, and glowing stars that all obscure our view," NASA wrote in a May 11 statement (opens in new tab) .

Why human colonisers could become cyborgs to survive on Mars | Daily Mail Online

This week, Lord Martin Rees , one of the country's leading astronomers, claimed that the obvious solution to some of these problems is making future explorers part-cyborg.

Lord Rees told the Hay Festival: 'These intrepid explorers on Mars will be out of the clutches of the regulators and they will have every incentive to modify themselves because they are very badly adapted for Mars.

The End of the Universe | astrobites

This guest post was written by Danny Baker, an undergraduate student at the University of Connecticut, for an assignment in the Fall 2021 Foundations of Modern Astrophysics class taught by Professor Cara Battersby.

The sheer vastness of the universe is something that a lot of people struggle with grasping. Imagining this in combination with the immense amount of time that it has and will continue to endure can be almost overwhelming. How do you even begin to grasp these concepts?
