Super-Earth planet zips through the habitable zone of red dwarf star

Astronomers have discovered a 'super-Earth' orbiting a red dwarf star just 37 light-years from our solar system.

"To have the very first planet discovered by this new method be so tantalizingly close to the habitable zone seems too good to be true and bodes well for future discoveries," team leader and Tokyo Institute of Technology professor Bun'ei Sato said in a statement .

Massive HIDDEN planet could be lurking inside this 'dusty disk' just 500 lightyears away ...

This is where the gas moves at a different rate than what experts would expect for a smoothly rotating disk, according to AAS Nova .

So a group of scientists decided to look at things differently, to see how the presence of a planet would affect IM Lupi's disk.

Planet 9 is running out of places to hide

Naturally, this motivated folks to search for the world, but it isn't easy. Planet 9 would be too distant to be seen by reflected light, so you'd have to look for it by its faint infrared glow. And with a mass of only five Earths, it wouldn't give off much heat.

To look for distant planets, the team used two infrared sky surveys , one from the InfraRed Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) and one from the AKARI Space Telescope.
