See Images of Neptune Come Into Focus With Webb Telescope - The New York Times

No spacecraft has visited Neptune since 1989, when the NASA probe Voyager 2 flew past on its way out of the solar system. Neptune, which is four times as wide as Earth, is the most distant planet of our solar system .

On Wednesday, the James Webb Space Telescope cast its powerful gold-plated eye onto this remote world. The power of this infrared machine, the largest and most advanced telescope ever sent to space, has provided some of our best views of Neptune in 30 years.

It's Raining Diamonds on More Planets Than We Thought - Nerdist

It’s raining diamonds! Well, it’s raining diamonds on other planets at least, including some in our Solar System. And scientists recently discovered that the conditions needed to create this wild weather are not as rare as they previously thought.

The scientists used PET plastic to test their theory. PET is in widespread use as food and drink packaging here on Earth. It contains hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen. By hitting it with a laser and watching it via X-ray, the scientists could see diamonds forming.

EarthSky | Water worlds common on red dwarfs? Maybe.

Earth is a water world, with its vast oceans, lakes and rivers. Elsewhere in our solar system, there are other bodies that have subsurface water oceans, including Jupiter's moon Europa and Saturn's moon Enceladus . But are there water worlds outside our solar system?

The new study focuses on red dwarf stars , the most common type of star in our galaxy. Many of the exoplanets – planets outside our own solar system – that astronomers have discovered so far orbit red dwarf stars.

Tiny "Pancakes" Suggest Some Asteroids May Stay Active - Eos

On the night of 23 April 2019, the peace of the rain forest near Aguas Zarcas, Costa Rica, was shattered by a brilliant streak of light in the sky, a loud blast, and a hailstorm of rocks—the remains of a small asteroid that exploded in the atmosphere.

Within days, the silence was broken again as scientists and collectors from around the world began scouring the landscape for fragments, which were worth more than gold—both literally and scientifically.
