China considering mission to Ceres and large dark matter space telescope - SpaceNews

HELSINKI — The Chinese Academy of Sciences is considering potential missions including a Ceres orbiter and a huge telescope to hunt for clues about the nature of dark matter.

More than 20 candidates are vying for funding for further study under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Strategic Priority Program on Space Science (SPP), also known as the New Horizon Program, and are currently undergoing evaluation.

Iroquois students working with International Space Station

Their top experiment will be launched to the International Space Station in 2023. Astronauts will conduct the experiment as students compare results on Earth.

"It would be super cool if our experiment goes to the space station," said Lexi Laskowski, an Iroquois sixth-grader.

An explosive gamma-ray burst, one of the brightest ever detected, lit up in the sky on 9 October 2022.

A gamma-ray burst is a super energetic explosion and this one originated in the constellation Sagitta. The signal of the burst – called GRB 221009A – was picked up by many ESA observatories.
