"The robot is doing the job": Robots help pick strawberries in California amid drought, labor ...

Eric Adamson's company is behind a strawberry robotic revolution. He said they're programmed to think on their own, with cameras that sense texture and color.

"People think robots have been around forever, but they're actually very, very new, especially robots that make decisions and are autonomous," Adamson said.

Dog-Like Robots To Make Deliveries Around UT Austin Campus

The robots will be deployed as part of a five-year study on whether humans and robots can "co-exist in a public."

The university will soon host delivery-bearing autonomous robots controllable by app, according to local outlet MySA.

It will begin early next year. Besides being useful in research, it will be a bonafide, useful delivery network, according to the release, and will first deploy at the beginning of next year.

Food delivery robots have taken over the UIC campus. Are they the future? - Chicago Sun-Times

A Starship food delivery robot rolls across the University of Illinois-Chicago campus. The university has 20 of the robots, which deliver food and beverages. The pilot program is about to expand, with 30 robots and a far larger range for deliveries.

The little black-and-white robots, each looking like a cross between a Mars rover and a beer cooler, lined up in front of a low concrete wall in the heart of the University of Illinois Chicago campus.

Oakland Cops Hope to Arm Robots With Lethal Shotguns

The controversy began at the September 21 meeting of an Oakland Police Commission subcommittee, a civilian oversight council addressing what rules should govern the use of the city's arsenal of military-grade police equipment.

The answer was immediately provocative. "No," Daza-Quiroz said, before quickly pivoting to hypothetical scenarios in which, yes, just such a shotgun-armed robot might be useful to police. "I mean, is it possible we have an active shooter in a place we can't get to?

How solarpunk ideals can inspire the robots of tomorrow | E&T Magazine

If robots are envisioned as the turning point to reach this optimistic future, industry is currently heading in the right direction. We have seen robots take the place of pets, nurses, factory and retail workers - including ones that make good conversation.

Robots interacting daily with people should favour functionality and respect for shared spaces. In some cases, the less space they use, the better. For example, in the case of robotic delivery fleets in college campuses and cities, robots are mindful of where pedestrians are.

Watch two Mini Cheetah robots square off on the soccer field • TechCrunch

Some robotics challenges have immediately clear applications. Others are more focused on helping systems solve broader challenges. Teaching small robots to play soccer against one another fits firmly into the latter category.
