Angrite Meteorites as Fragments of First-Generation Planetesimals in the Early Solar System | ...

Angrites are olivine-bearing, basaltic meteorites that originate from a volatile-depleted planetesimal.

François Tissot from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his team carried out a series of crystallization experiments under varying conditions and compared their results with previous petrologic data for the 37 known angrite specimens to better understand their crystallization history.

25 weird and wild solar system facts

With so many interesting solar system facts, we've narrowed them down to 25 of our favorites.

Our solar system consists of the sun and everything that orbits that sun, like the eight (once nine) planets we all know from school. But the main planets, as diverse and fascinating as they are, are just the beginning.

NASA Studies Origins of 'Weird' Solar System Object: Dwarf Planet Haumea - SpaceRef

Using computer simulations, scientists based at NASA have pieced together the story of how the dwarf planet Haumea, found in the Kuiper Belt of icy worlds beyond the orbit of outermost planet Neptune, became one of the most unusual objects in the solar system.

Nearly the size of Pluto, Haumea is strange in several ways. It spins faster, by far, than anything else of its size, whirling on its axis in only four hours. Because of its fast spin, Haumea is shaped like a deflated American football instead of a sphere.

Solar Panels Should Be Reused and Recycled. Here's How. - Union of Concerned Scientists

Picture this: Light energy from the sun zooms through the solar system to reach your sunny rooftop, gets absorbed into your solar panel, and charges the device or computer on which you are reading this post. It is a perfectly closed, sustainable system.

It is more like a straight line from silica mine, to refining factory, to shimmering batch of shining polysilicon ingots, to panel assembly , to a couple decades generating clean electricity—and then, far too often, to a landfill.

Saturn: 6 essential facts about the second-largest planet in the solar system

It is mainly known for its rings. Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune have rings, too, but Saturn's rings are larger and brighter. That is why Saturn is dubbed "the ringed planet."
