A Nearby Star Has Completely Blasted Away the Atmosphere From its Planet - Universe Today
What if you placed an Earth-sized planet in a close orbit around an M-dwarf star? It’s more than an academic question since M dwarfs are the most numerous stars we know. A group of astronomers studying the planet GJ 1252b found an answer and it’s not pretty.
There are millions and millions of M dwarf stars in our galaxy alone. They range in size from about a tenth to two-thirds of the mass of the Sun. These can be active , sending flares and outbursts through their systems.

The first step, however, is to find them and that is the goal of "PICTURE-C," the Planetary Imaging Concept Testbed Using a Recoverable Experiment-Coronagraph.
The Heaviest Element Ever Seen in an Exoplanet's Atmosphere: Barium - Universe Today
Astronomers have spotted barium in the atmosphere of a distant exoplanet. With its 56 protons, you have to run your finger further down the periodic table than astronomers usually do to find barium. What does finding such a heavy element in an exoplanet atmosphere mean?
We’ve made a lot of progress in exoplanet science since astronomers discovered the first ones in the mid-1990s; we now know of thousands of them. In 2001, researchers using Hubble data were the first to observe an exoplanet atmosphere, identifying sodium .

Here's how Earth's minerals are helping scientists reconstruct history of planet - and ...
WASHINGTON — There are over 6,000 known minerals on Earth. At least, that's what the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) says. But a new study says that number might be off by quite a bit.
The IMA has been keeping track of minerals since 1958. Its database currently holds information about over 6,000 known minerals and their chemical compositions.
