Scientists have discovered a planet that they said could float in a bathtub if you could get one large enough.
Discovery Alert!📣
A Jupiter-like planet orbits a cool red dwarf star ~580 light-years from Earth in the constellation of Auriga the Charioteer. TOI-3757b is the lowest-density planet ever detected around a red dwarf. It has the density of a MARSHMALLOW.
Astronomers find giant planet with fluffy 'marshmallow' density
Astronomers say they've discovered a strange exoplanet with a marshmallow-like density that appears to float in space as if it's in a cosmic bathtub.
Its orbit around a red dwarf star is interesting because these types of stars are the smallest and most dim of all of the main-sequence stars.
What are zombie planets? And what makes them really spooky?
Pulsars have powerful magnetic fields which may allow electric currents to arc through space between the pulsar and an orbiting planet. So if any of these planets have atmospheres, they might constantly be bathed in the unearthly light of powerful aurora (similar to our northern lights).
