It is widely accepted among the scientific community that over the next few billion years the Sun will swell into a red giant star, absorbing Mercury and Venus, and cauterizing the Earth.
Then the Sun will sneeze off its outer layers, becoming a white dwarf star, which will be so miserly with its energy output that the remnant of the Earth will wind up as an airless, waterless, deep-frozen rock ball. More massive stars collapse and explode.
Friday presentation at Discovery Center about planets around other stars
The local Astronomy and Space Exploration Club will host a presentation Friday at McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center about exoplanets, part of a world-wide contest by NASA and the International Astronomical Union to name a star and its exoplanets.
Research scientist Dr. Andrew Jordan will give a talk about exoplanets, the club will discuss its naming convention and there will be a planetarium theater show with the new 8K theater. There will be telescopes outside for viewing with the NH Astronomical Society.

SFCC reopens planetarium with interactive campus solar system | The Spokesman-Review
When the planetarium at Spokane Falls Community College puts on its first public show since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic this weekend, attendees will have a chance to walk among the planets in a scaled model of the solar system that spans the campus.
