'Completely different planets' - government adviser quits because of home secretary's views on ...

A government adviser appears to have quit her role because of Suella Braverman, saying she and the home secretary are on "completely different planets" when it comes to women's rights.

But speaking on Times Radio on Friday, she hit out at the current head of the Home Office, saying she "wouldn't feel comfortable" staying in the job alongside her.

The Fermi paradox - Why haven't we found Aliens?

Looking up at a starry night sky makes one wonder if we are really alone. If you have never asked yourself this question, here's some perspective on the vastness of our universe.

On the best of conditions, you could, in theory, count around 5,000 stars with the naked eye. The image below shows the comparison between our galaxy (the Milky Way) and our sun. Our night sky (5,000) stars will just be another small dot in comparison with the Milky Way.

Scientists Gain Unprecedented Look at Infernal 'Hell World' In Space

This searing “Super-Earth,” located 41 light years from Earth, is so close to its star that its year lasts only 18 hours. Scientists surmise that its surface is probably engulfed in a lava ocean that is 2,400°F on its night side—and twice as hot on the day side.

Now, scientists led by Lily Zhao, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Flatiron Institute's Center for Computational Astrophysics, have achieved a breakthrough in our understanding of 55 Cancri e, and other ultra-short-period planets (USPs) that have years shorter than a day.

Trading spaces: How swapping stars create hot Jupiters

Overall hot Jupiters are relatively rare. Only roughly 1% of stars with planets host one. But in star clusters the percentage is much higher. Hot Jupiters seem to be several times more common in star clusters than average.

A team of astronomers have put together an analysis that they believe is able to explain why star clusters host more hot Jupiters. The key is that stars in a cluster are packed together much more closely than average.

Spotted over Texas: Mars photobombs final full moon of 2022

The Cold Moon, the last full moon of the year, outshined Mars in what was supposed to be the red planets brightest moment of the year.

It's not every day, or every year, that you get to see the Moon and Mars on full display at the same time.

According to NASA, Wednesday ended with the earliest sunset of the year, the early darkness serving as the perfect setting to view the cold moon, named for winter's "long, cold nights." It's also been dubbed by some as the Frost Moon, for the frost as winter nears, and the Winter Moon.
