A bright green comet will soon make its first and likely only appearance in recorded history ...

The new year has just begun, but the cosmos are already set to make history in 2023.

The comet, C/2022 E3 (ZTF), was first seen in March 2022 as it made its way through Jupiter's orbit.

"Most known long-period comets have been seen only once in recorded history because their orbital periods are so, well,  long ," NASA says. "Countless more unknown long-period comets have never been seen by human eyes.

Mid-Infrared Spectroscopy of Components in Chondrites: Search for Processed Materials in Young ...

We obtained mid-infrared spectra of chondrules, matrix, CAIs and bulk material from primitive type 1-4 chondrites in order to compare them with the dust material in young, forming solar systems and around comets.

Our aim is to investigate whether there are similarities between the first processed materials in our early Solar System and protoplanetary disks currently forming around other stars. Chondrule spectra can be divided into two groups.

Strangely strong interstellar meteorites may come from supernovae | New Scientist

Interstellar meteorites may be even stranger than we thought. They seem to be stronger than meteorites produced in our own solar system, which hints that they could have formed in a supernova or some other extreme cosmic event.

These interloping rocks are swift – any meteorite travelling at a high speed compared to the sun may come from beyond our solar system, and its origin can be confirmed by calculating the direction it came from.

EarthSky | 2 alien water worlds with oceans 500 times deeper than Earth's

An international team of astronomers said in December 2022 that it has identified the first true water worlds , unlike any in our solar system. These exoplanets are both slightly larger than Earth.

The two worlds orbit a red dwarf star called Kepler-138 , which is 218 light-years away in the direction of our constellation Lyra the Harp. Scientists have theorized that global water worlds like these exist. They’ve had some tantalizing hints before now.
