NASA has discovered an Earth-sized planet orbiting in the habitable zone of its star - CBS News

Scientists have discovered a world that is likely rocky and 95% of the size of Earth. The planet, called  TOI 700 e, is orbiting around a star and could have liquid water on it, NASA says .

This is the fourth planet discovered in the TOI 700 system — the other planets are named TOI 700 b, c, and d — which is 100 light-years away. TOI 700 is a star the planets orbit around, but only d and e orbit in the " habitable zone ."

JWST confirms its first alien planet, and it's the size of Earth

The James Webb Space Telescope has confirmed its first planet orbiting a distant star, and it's a rocky world just about the same size as Earth.

Why it matters: Part of the scientific value of the JWST is its ability to characterize alien planets. This finding opens the door to learning more about what the atmosphere of this planet could be.

NASA Just Discovered an Earth-Like Habitable Planet Orbiting a Nearby Star

In a press release about these new findings, presented to the American Astronomical Society, the space agency said that the "Earth-sized" planet it just discovered is unique not just because it could potentially host liquid water, but also because it's the second such planet in a system ...

NASA scientists say satellite discovers second Earth-sized planet

Scientists from NASA announced Tuesday that they discovered an Earth-size planet orbiting its star's habitable zone.

Called TOI 700 e, the planet is part of the TOI 700 system and is 95% the Earth's size and likely rocky, according to NASA, which used data from its Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS).

Webb telescope confirms its first exoplanet: Earth-sized rocky planet orbiting red dwarf

For the first time ever, researchers have confirmed the existence of a planet that orbits another star using the James Webb Space Telescope. According to NASA, the planet has been formally classified as LHS 475 b and is almost exactly the same size as our own planet.

LHS 475 b's diameter is about 99 per cent that of the Earth. With Webb's precise light curve, the researchers were able to confirm that the planet completes an orbit around its star in just two days.

NASA satellite plummets to Earth after 38 years in space

NASA's retired Earth Radiation Budget Satellite (ERBS) reentered Earth's atmosphere at 11:04 p.m. EST on Jan. 8, 2023.

A 5,400-pound NASA satellite that spent almost the last four decades orbiting Earth went down in a blaze of glory over the weekend. Dubbed the Earth Radiation Budget Satellite (ERBS), the research satellite was launched from the Space Shuttle Challenger on Oct.
