AI-enabled robots may increase recycling, workplace safety - GCN

At least that's the goal of a recycling robot slated to start work this fall at a materials recovery facility in Ann Arbor, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) announced last month .

Machinex Technologies' SamurAI uses artificial intelligence to identify specific types of materials such as polypropylene plastics and remove them from the sorting line with a suction system.

Growing up on a sheep farm in New Zealand , two tasks that sometimes fell to me were digging out thistles and spraying barley grass . It was important to keep these weeds from spreading, and teenagers were the lowest-cost weed eliminator.

In modern agriculture, robots are increasingly being used for weeding. They use computer vision to identify what is a weed and what is not. They have various ways of dealing with the weeds they see; some spray them, some dig them out, and others zap them with a laser.

Robots To Compete At Brooklyn Public Library | Prospect Heights, NY Patch

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Our future robot overlords will face off at the Brooklyn Public Library main branch this Saturday to find out which team can out-build and out-code the rest.

Hosted by the BKLYN Robotics League and NYC FIRST , the event will pit competing teams of players aged nine to 17 in a contest to build robots that can complete energy-related tasks in a theme the league is calling "Super Powered."
