NASA shot yeast into space. The science could help protect astronauts, researchers say
A short trip to space for some yeast samples could have the potential to be a giant scientific leap for mankind after an experimental collaboration between the North American Space Agency and researchers at the University of British Columbia.
To see how those samples, which returned to earth on Dec. 11, fared while exposed to cosmic radiation. Yeast have a similar genetic make-up to humans.

The Space Review: To go to Mars, do a backflip at Venus
NASA has made clear its long-term human spaceflight aspirations in recent years. The agency’s Artemis campaign will fly a series of crewed missions to the Moon that will become increasingly ambitious: larger crews, longer stays, and more infrastructure.
There are alternative concepts, though, for human spaceflight beyond Earth. SpaceX and its founder, Elon Musk, have advocated going directly to Mars with its Starship vehicle, getting there far earlier than NASA’s plans.
