290-foot asteroid on way to Earth today, says NASA, reveals astonishing speed | Tech News

Asteroids are sometimes also called minor planets. They are rocky, airless remnants left over from the early formation of our solar system about 4.6 billion years ago.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory releases a list of asteroids that are nearing Earth. It also informs about their size, speed and their chances of posing a threat to humanity and Earth. Here is all you need to know about the 290-foot (building sized) asteroid.

Wes Anderson's 'Asteroid City' and 'Henry Sugar' Will Feature Stop-Motion Animation Sequences ...

Anderson has already made two full stop-motion films: 2009's "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" and 2018's "Isle of Dogs." Stop-motion was also used for a specific sequence in "The Darjeeling Limited."

We can most likely surmise that, with a June release date, "Asteroid City" will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. We're not too sure about 'Henry Sugar' but its eyed fall launch could have it playing at Toronto/Telluride/Venice.

How to see the 1st meteor shower of 2023

The Quadrantids meteor shower, which peaked Thursday morning, has the potential to be the strongest of the year, but it usually falls short due to its short peak of six hours and the poor weather during the month, according to the American Meteor Society .

The Quadrantids shower, named after the former constellation Quadrans Muralis, originates not from a comet but an asteroid — specifically, the 2003 EHI asteroid, which takes 5.52 years to orbit the sun, according to NASA.

ASU, NASA project zooms in on the structure of meteorites

They can often be seen in the night sky as quick streaks of light. This flashy display signals their vaporization as they speed and heat up in the Earth’s atmosphere.

Meteors and meteorites are pieces of asteroids. If they burn up completely on entry into Earth's atmosphere, they're called meteors. If they fall to the ground, they’re known as meteorites.
