Evidence found of a ninth planet (now Pluto has been downgraded)

Before 2006 our solar system boasted nine planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Then the International Astronomical Union (IAU) laid out its three laws for what constitutes a full-size "planet".

It is this third criterion that saw Pluto demoted to "dwarf planet" status, joining its neighbours Eris (which is slightly larger than Pluto), Makemake and Haumea in the outlying Kuiper Belt, as well as Ceres in the Asteroid Belt (between Mars and Jupiter).
