A planet-hunting consortium is marking five successful years by releasing data on more than 50 worlds.
Astronomers designed the CARMENES instrument to find Earth-size planets in their habitable zones. And it has delivered. Since it came online in 2016, it has resulted in a flurry of exciting results.

After a planetary display alarmed some residents of California’s Central Valley, the sheriff’s office took to social media to deter 911 calls about the phenomenon.
“There is no reason to report this,” the Stanislaus County sheriff’s Facebook post said Thursday, referring to the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter in the night sky.
