Emerging evidence suggests the hackers who tampered with the 3CX app to deliver malware did so to infiltrate cryptocurrency companies, according to antivirus provider Kaspersky.
“We found out that the threat actor specifically targeted cryptocurrency companies,” the company says, citing its own telemetry, which includes users of Kaspersky’s antivirus protection .

Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has warned of a new form of attack on cryptocurrency firms, which it says is carried out with "surgical precision" by hackers using corrupted software.
Georgy Kucherin, a researcher on Kaspersky's GReAT team of security analysts, said that this attack type is "becoming very common," and explained:

Data storage giant Western Digital has confirmed that hackers exfiltrated data from its systems during a “network security incident” last week.
"Based on the investigation to date, the company believes the unauthorized party obtained certain data from its systems and is working to understand the nature and scope of that data," Western Digital said.

So far, the perpetrators remain unknown and no major ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a statement , Western Digital said that "Based on the investigation to date, the company believes the unauthorized party obtained certain data from its systems and is working to understand the nature and scope of that data."

Data storage giant Western Digital said hackers have gained access to its systems and company data in an ongoing cyberattack that began last week.
In a statement released Monday morning, the company said its IT team initially discovered the network security incident on March 26. The hackers have been able to steal data, the statement said, but Western Digital is still determining how much was taken.
