Here's what we've learned from NASA's DART asteroid-slamming mission | Space

The DART mission, NASA's first attempt to prove whether it is possible to shift an asteroid away from a collision course with Earth, has been described as a "great success" by scientists involved in the project.

"DART was a smashing success," Andy Rivkin, a researcher at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), said as he and other DART researchers presented the results of the mission at the 8th Planetary Defense Conference in Vienna, Austria, on Monday (April 3).

NASA collided a spacecraft into an asteroid and here's what it achieved

NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) was a success, and according to the space agency, the entire mission was a " great success ".

DART was the world's first planetary defense mission, as the objective was to see if it was possible to change the orbit of a binary asteroid system. The target of the mission was the smaller of the two asteroids, Dimorphos, which is orbiting its larger companion asteroid, Didymos.

Nasa puzzled by spinning asteroid that is flinging rocks into space | The Independent

Astronomers have found that the asteroid Didymos may be spinning so fast that it could be constantly spewing debris and materials into space , an advance that may have an impact on how such space rocks are studied.

Didymos is the larger companion space rock of the asteroid Dimorphos that Nasa impacted last year as part of its Dart mission.

Radio waves indicate far-off planet might have Earth-like magnetic field - pennlive.com

The brightness of radio waves from the star known as YZ Ceti that is 12 light years away in the constellation Cetus indicates a similar magnetic field, according to Jackie Villadsen, a professor of physics and astronomy.

She co-authored a paper published Monday in the scientific journal Nature Astronomy with J. Sebastian Pineda, a research astrophysicist at the University of Colorado Boulder, that documents their findings.

Cracking the Magnetic Code: Distant Radio Signals Reveal Earth-Like Exoplanets' Hidden Force

By National Science Foundation April 3, 2023 An artist's conceptual rendering of interactions between an exoplanet and its star. Plasma emitted from the star is deflected by the exoplanet's magnetic field.

Because magnetic fields are invisible, it's challenging to determine if a distant planet actually has one, explains Villadsen. "What we're doing is looking for a way to see them," she says. "We're looking for planets that are really close to their stars and are a similar size to Earth.

Navigating the Cosmos - Georgia State University News - Research - Science & Technology

ATLANTA—Plans are underway to add a seventh movable telescope to Georgia State University's Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy— known as the CHARA Array—that would increase the resolution, or the ability to see small objects, by a factor of three.

Located at Mount Wilson Observatory in Southern California and operated by Georgia State, the new telescope will be connected using fiber optics to transport the starlight, a technique that will serve as a pathfinder for future expansion of the Array.

What happens when robots lie? • Earth.com

To address this issue, two student researchers at Georgia Tech , Kantwon Rogers and Reiden Webber, conducted a study to investigate how intentional robot deception affects trust and how apologies could potentially repair trust after a robot lies.

Rogers, a Ph.D. student in the College of Computing, and Webber, a second-year computer science undergraduate, designed a driving simulation to explore the effectiveness of apologies to repair trust after robots lie. They presented their findings at the 2023 HRI Conference in Stockholm, Sweden.

Redness of Neptunian asteroids could shed light on early solar system

Although planets and moons receive a lot of attention in space exploration, there is a lot to learn about our solar system from its many smaller bodies, such as comets and asteroids.

These trojan asteroids are those that share the orbit of the ice giant, Neptune. Neptune's Trojan asteroids were discovered in 2001, and scientists have only been able to describe a few of them.

On-Grid or Off-Grid Solar System: Which One is the Best for You? - GeneOnline News

W hen it comes to transitioning to renewable energy sources, solar energy is one of the most reliable options that is available today. Businesses as well as individuals are turning to solar power systems in a bid save energy costs and go green.

The on-grid solar system generates power in the presence of the utility power grid which is connected to the utility feed. The excess energy is stored in the utility grid, and the consumer is compensated for it.

Our Solar System is the Rarest Kind in the Milky Way - WorldAtlas

Over the last few decades, scientists have confirmed the existence of over 5,300 planets beyond our solar system. Planets are so abundant that astronomers believe that every star is orbited by at least one planet. Planets are now believed to be a natural part of star formation .

Astronomers have uncovered four classes of planetary systems, defined by how planets are ordered. These four types are similar, ordered, anti-ordered, and mixed. Similar solar systems are the most common type, and they generally contain planets with similar sizes and masses.
