EarthSky | Comet Halley, parent of 2 meteor showers
The famous comet 1P/Halley – aka Halley’s Comet – swings into the inner solar system about every 76 years. At such times, the sun's heat causes the comet to loosen its icy grip over its mountain-sized conglomeration of ice, dust, and gas.
Then some six months later, in October, Earth in its orbit again intersects the orbital path of Halley’s Comet. This time around, these broken-up chunks from the comet burn up in Earth’s atmosphere as the annual Orionid meteor shower .
Pushing the Limits of IR Spectra: Using Nano-FTIR on Meteorites - Eos
The mid-infrared has been used frequently to understand the mineralogy or composition of rock or powdered samples in the laboratory and planetary surfaces through spacecraft observations.
Young et al. [2022] use a new and significant method, the nanoscale near-field infrared imaging and spectroscopy.
Here's What's Holding Humans Back From Mining in Space, Because Apparently We Haven't Colonised ...
Like Earth, planetary bodies such as the Moon, Mars, asteroids and comets contain substantial deposits of valuable resources. This has caught the attention of both researchers and industry, with hopes of one day mining them to support a space economy.
But setting up any kind of off-Earth mining industry will be no small feat. Let's look at what we're up against.

Michael Bay Movies: The Most Outrageously Awesome Moments
One thing that must be understood about Michael Bay movies is that scientific and historical accuracy are entirely beside the point. If you want reality, turn to PBS documentaries or science-fiction films that have been thoroughly fact-checked by Neil deGrasse Tyson .
Bay’s latest film is about two brothers who rob a bank and then carjack an ambulance to escape law enforcement. So begins a wild car chase across Los Angeles in which the brothers take an EMT and a wounded police officer as hostages.
