The New Moon marks the end of one lunar cycle and heralds the start of another. A New Moon appears every 29.5 days, which is the length of the lunar cycle, and the Moon takes about 27.3 days to complete a lap around our planet.
If you look up at the sky tonight (March 22) the Moon might appear as a tiny sliver of light or not be visible at all.
This is because the Moon has entered its Waning Crescent Phase, the last stage before the New Moon.

NASA announced this week that it will not rely on its ambitious Lunar Gateway, a space station designed to serve as a science outpost and launch pad to the lunar surface, to help astronauts to the moon after all.
NASA is still going to build the Lunar Gateway, but it's just not likely to be a critical part of the Artemis Mission. Loverro stressed that international partners like ESA, Roscosmos, JAXA, and the Canadian Space Agency—whose contributions weren't going to be added until after NASA's 2024 lunar deadline—will not be impacted by the shift. (They were given an official notice about the decision on March 16.)

As Neil Armstrong, commander of the Eagle lunar module, reflected in a technical debrief, "at something less than 100 feet, we were beginning to get a transparent sheet of moving dust that obscured visibility a bit. As we got lower, the visibility continued to decrease."

On Thursday evening, Jim Bridenstine, the space agency's administrator, announced the suspension of the manufacture and testing of the Space Launch System and Orion, the giant rocket and crew capsule that would be used to take astronauts back to the moon.
The Trump administration had set a goal of the next moon landing occurring by the end of 2024 . With the spread of the coronavirus, however, NASA is now shutting down work at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, where the rocket is being built, and the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, about 45 miles to the northeast of Michoud. The first Space Launch System booster is being tested at Stennis.
