Habitable Planets With Earth-Like Biospheres May Be Much Rarer Than Thought

A new analysis of known exoplanets has revealed that Earth-like conditions on potentially habitable planets may be much rarer than previously thought.

The number of confirmed planets in our own Milky Way galaxy now numbers into the thousands. However, planets that are both Earth-like and in the habitable zone — the region around a star where the temperature is just right for liquid water to exist on the surface — are much less common.

4 Planets Are Retrograde Summer 2021: Here's What It Means

When Mercury goes retrograde, we hear about it. Every few months, we're told to expect tech snafus and travel delays until the celestial messenger gets its head on straight again.

Since Earth orbits the sun at different speeds than the other planets, when we pass these other planets by, they appear to move backward in the sky. This optical illusion happens more frequently with inner planets like Mercury, which orbit the sun quicker than other planets like Saturn and

Planets, moons and the constellation Scorpio - Coast Reporter

There will be some fleeting conjunctions of planets and moons in July but with the Sun just past its most northerly point in the sky, all the planets will be to the south of it and low to the horizon. You’ll need to work for it this time of year!

On July 11 just after sunset by about 22:00 look low in the WNW about 5 degrees above the horizon to see a very thin crescent New Moon and about six lunar diameters to its left a very bright Venus.

UVic news - University of Victoria

The new discovery debunks the long-standing assumption that all protoplanetary disks have gaps. This assumption divided the scientific community on gap causation, as some argued there were not enough planets to cause all disk gaps.

"We have stars with all kinds of masses in the universe.

Most Exoplanets won't Receive Enough Radiation to Support an Earth-Like Biosphere - Universe

To date, astronomers have confirmed the existence of 4,422 extrasolar planets in 3,280 star systems, with an additional 7,445 candidates awaiting confirmation. Of these, only a small fraction (165) have been terrestrial (aka. rocky) in nature and comparable in size to Earth – i.e.

In the coming years, this is likely to change when next-generation instruments (like James Webb) are able to observe smaller planets that orbit closer to their stars (which is where Earth-like planets are more likely to reside).

Ventnor boardwalk offers your guide to the Solar System - DOWNBEACH

VENTNOR – If you are interested in astronomy and the planets, you can experience a scaled down version of the Solar System while walking along the Ventnor City Boardwalk this summer.

"The Solar System Planetary Walk,” an educational, half-mile track that depicts a fairly accurate representation of the planets in relation to size and distance from the sun and other planets, will be on the boardwalk starting July 3.
