Thursday evening (Sept. 9) will bring a lovely celestial display involving the two brightest objects in the nighttime sky.

The planet Venus , which has been languishing low in the dusk all summer, at last manages to stay above the west-southwest horizon as late as the end of evening twilight.

September astronomy: Moon conjunctions, ISS flyby, full Harvest Moon

If you stargaze just after sunset, you'll notice a suspiciously bright star blazing in the western sky. It's not a plane or a UFO. It's the planet Venus and it is seriously bright.

On the evening of Thursday, Sept. 9, the slim crescent moon cozied up to the dazzling planet. And on Friday, Sept. 10, you can catch the pair again. Face west-southwest and look just above the horizon after sunset. The moon will shine up and to the left of Venus. But don't wait too long to look.

Incremental Change by the Light of the Moon | JewishBoston

At its fullest, our moon is an astonishing sight. No matter which way I gaze across the deep darkness of the heavens, our moon glimmers, casting its glow and illuminating shadows on the burnt orange cliffs of Kodachrome Basin State Park.

I look up and realize how the moon is radiant in its capacity to grow and change. It is incrementally steady, gradual and unhurried, shifting slowly but surely to reach its fullness, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year.

Over the Moon | | Santa Fe Reporter

Bystrom-Williams is as puro Santa Fe as it gets, a community-minded businesswoman and mother who, like so many locals before her, had to leave town to truly understand its appeal.

"My boss said 'You should try this stuff,' and all I know is that I can carry a lot of stress in my stomach, but when I was drinking kombucha, I would have these intensely euphoric moments of relief," she tells SFR.
