Jupiter's Asteroids Could Teach Us About the Solar System's Past - The Atlantic

Imagine Jupiter and its little asteroids as cosmic Halloween decor on the solar system's front stoop.

Earlier this month, NASA launched a spacecraft named Lucy to admire this autumnal space display. Spacecraft have visited Jupiter before, but none has ever gone to inspect the planet's little asteroids up close.

A Mars Colony Could be a Hydrogen Factory, Providing Propellant for the Inner Solar System -

There are lots of potential uses for a Mars colony . It could be a research outpost, mining colony, or even a possible second home if something happens to go drastically wrong on our first one.

A new paper from Dr. Mikhail Shubov at the University of Massachusetts Lowell discussing just such an eventuality. Hydrogen is useful in myriad applications. From creating water to exploding as rocket fuel, the most abundant element in the universe sure has many uses.

Jupiter's Great Red Spot — the biggest storm in the solar system — is deeper than expected -

Jupiter's Great Red Spot, a storm so big it could swallow Earth, extends surprisingly deep beneath the planet's cloud tops, scientists have reported.

Despite the storm shrinking, it still has a width of 16,000 kilometres and a depth of between 350 and 500 kilometres.

Proposed Centaur Mission Could Catch Comets in the Act of Formation

A recent plan would send a Centaur mission to Jupiter's orbit and follow a comet through formation.

From Mercury to the depths of the distant Kuiper Belt, there aren't many unexplored corners of the solar system out there. One class of object, however, remains to be visited: the transitional Centaurs out beyond the orbit of Jupiter.
