Microsoft: Government Most Targeted Sector by Hackers In Past Year - Nextgov

Government entities represented the most targeted sector by hackers since mid-2020, according to Microsoft, which released its annual Digital Defense Report Thursday.

The 130-page report details worldwide threat activity distilled by Microsoft from July 2020 through June 2021 and found 48% of all attacks involved governments—far higher than any other sector.

Google to give security keys to ‘high risk’ users targeted by government hackers

Google has said it will provide 10,000 “high-risk” users with free hardware security keys, days after the company warned thousands of Gmail users that they were targeted by state-sponsored hackers .

The warning, sent by Google's Threat Analysis Group (TAG), alerted more than 14,000 Gmail users that they had been targeted in a state-sponsored phishing campaign from APT28, also known as Fancy Bear, said to be made up of operatives of Russia’s GRU intelligence agency.

Ransomware hackers find vulnerable target in U.S. grain supply

At least three U.S. grain distributors' systems have been infected with ransomware in recent weeks, raising concerns that hackers have found an easy target in a vital part of the U.S. food supply chain.

The timing is particularly bad, said Charles Hurburgh, the head of Iowa State University's Grain Quality Laboratory.

Twitch hackers plaster platform with images of Jeff Bezos' face - Dot Esports

Just a couple of days after the massive data leak that included Twitch’s source code and information on streamer earnings, hackers plastered the platform with pictures of Jeff Bezos’ face today.

The hackers managed to keep their alterations to the website up for over two hours before Twitch restored its platform to normalcy. Though many of the clips and images of the hacker attack have been taken down since, streamers such as Pokelawls were able to document and archive the event.
