An asteroid about the size of a house shot past the Earth on Tuesday at relatively close range, and an astronomer managed to snap a photo of it as it passed overhead.
The asteroid, called 2022 AC4, flew past at 12:19 a.m. ET on January 11, coming within just 58,000 miles of Earth. This may sound like a large distance compared to daily distances traveled by humans, but in fact it's less than one quarter of the distance to the moon.
A 'rogue asteroid field' almost delays the Valoria 3 analog Mars mission — Commander's
Dr. Michaela Musilova is the director of Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation ( HI-SEAS ) program, which conducts analog missions to the moon and Mars for scientific research at a habitat on the volcano Mauna Loa.
At first, we had to delay our "launch to Mars" because of an unexpected late delivery of some of our mission supplies.
Don't look up: Kansas conservatives ready destructive asteroid of proposals that threaten us all

What's the difference between a Kansas-sized asteroid barreling toward our state and the latest conservative proposals for our new legislative session?
Massive asteroid will fly by Earth next week, NASA data shows
A kilometer-wide asteroid will pass by Earth next week, according to data from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory .
The asteroid, known as 7482 (1994 PC1), was first observed in 1994. It will pass within 0.01324 astronomical units (1,230,734 miles) of Earth at 4:51 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Asteroid twice the size of Empire State Building projected to pass Earth next week
NASA says an asteroid twice as big as the Empire State Building is projected to pass by Earth sometime next week.
The asteroid is estimated to be one kilometer (3,451 feet) wide, twice the size of the Empire State Building, which is 1,454 feet wide.
She looks up! Meet Brazil who showed NASA an asteroid could hit Earth

NASA confirms 260 to 600 foot-wide asteroid approached Earth | TweakTown
NASA has confirmed via its database that tracks all Near-Earth Objects (NEO) that an asteroid that is roughly half the size of the Empire State Building has approached Earth.
As the NASA database states , asteroid 2013 YD48 is anywhere between 260 - 600 feet in diameter has made its closest approach with Earth on January 11. The asteroid was in no way a danger to the planet and made a safe fly-ball of Earth at a distance of 3,477,476 miles.

The telescope is now on the way to its destination, 1.5 million kilometers away from Earth, where it will begin a series of tests once it arrives in late January. If the mission goes to plan, we can expect to start receiving images from the telescope in mid-2022.

How close is too close? An asteroid more than twice the size of the Empire State Building will pass by Earth.
(CNN) — An asteroid estimated to be about a kilometer wide (3,451 feet) will fly by Earth on Jan. 18.
It will pass within 1.2 million miles of our planet, moving at 47,344 miles per hour, according to NASA's Center for Near Earth Object Studies , which tracks potentially hazardous comets and asteroids that could collide with our planet.
