Total Turnaround In Astronomy: A Never-before-seen Structure Discovered In The Solar System

The Solar System continues to surprise us day after day and its presence in terms of dominance and expansion goes far beyond what we thought. And indeed, a long way from Neptune and the Kuiper Belt is the Oort Cloud, a region that could mark with accuracy the farthest limit that has been discovered so far in the Solar System.

The Oort Cloud is about 9.3 trillion miles away . This region is composed of dozens of icy objects that hardly notice the Sun's gravitation . Experts have defined this zone as "a large collection of bodies floating by themselves and at random". However, a study by the Southwest Research Institute has revealed that there may be something in its structure that we did not know until now.

This region is divided into two zones: a spherical outer shell about 10,000 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun, and a more compact inner shell starting at 1,000 AU. The outer part is more vulnerable to nearby stars, while the inner part is more stable due to the gravitational attraction of the Sun.

This spiral could have formed in the early stages, having been shaped by the gravitational attraction of the galaxy and preserved over time. It also could be tilted about 30 degrees with respect to the usual plane of our solar system.
