Near-Earth objects provide extraterrestrial intelligence an ‘ideal’ way to spy on

Although Earth only has one moon, it does have other natural satellites, including asteroid 2016 HO3, known as a “co-orbital object.” These tiny celestial objects could be an “attractive location for extraterrestrial intelligence,” according to a new study.

The research suggests that these space rocks could be hiding grounds for an advanced civilization, given their small size and close proximity to the planet.

“These near-Earth objects provide an ideal way to watch our world from a secure natural object,” the study’s abstract reads. “That provides resources an ETI [extraterrestrial intelligence] might need: materials, a firm anchor and concealment! Why we haven't made contact with aliens: answers to the Fermi Paradox - Business Insider

Didier Queloz, a physicist from the University of Cambridge, was named a co-winner of the Nobel prize in physics on Tuesday for his discovery of the first exoplanet orbiting a sun-like star.

His statement is, in a way, a response to a question that physicist Enrico Fermi first posed to his colleagues over lunch in 1950: "Where is everybody?"

Read More: Alien civilizations may have explored the galaxy and visited Earth already, a new study says. We just haven't seen them recently.

In his recent book "End Times," science writer Bryan Walsh discusses 13 theories as to why we've yet to make contact with aliens and why we might never do so . Here's how each one addresses the Fermi Paradox.

Queloz and his co-winner of the Nobel prize, Michel Mayor, detected the first ever exoplanet (a planet outside our solar system) in 1995. Named 51 Pegasi b, the Jupiter-like planet is located about 50 light-years away from Earth, in the Pegasus constellation.

Tom DeLonge Talks UFOs, All Things Extraterrestrial And His Quest For The Truth — Kerrang--

"Once I felt like I'd conquered music," he says, "I wondered if there was a way to jump in and try to conquer this subject a little bit, at least with some credibility." He set up a company for trans-media projects around Angels & Airwaves, which has over time evolved into his To The Stars Academy Of Arts & Science , an outlet that proclaims itself to be 'a revolutionary collaboration between academia, industry and pop culture to advance society's understanding of scientific phenomena and its technological implications'.

It's a complicated offering – part entertainment corporation, part private technology company, part… UFO investigation outlet. Imagine if Elon Musk fronted a band, produced films and wanted to harness alien technology and you begin to get a sense of the scope of Tom's ambitions.
