They’re called trans-Neptunian objects, or TNOs. Astronomers analyzed data from the Dark Energy Survey – which just completed 6 years of observations – to find over 100 new little worlds in the cold outer reaches of our solar system.

As the material in the circumstellar disk swirls around the now-rotating star, it clumps up into individual planets. As planets form in it, they leave gaps in that disk. Or so we think.
One of the most observed young stars is called HL Tauri. It's in the constellation Taurus and is about 450 light years away. The Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) captured a well-known image of HL Tauri in 2014. That image is the sharpest image ever taken by ALMA.

Plasmoids are globs of ionized gases pulled from a celestial body’s atmosphere. These bursts of atmospheric material are flung away from a planet by its magnetic field. This is the first time a plasmoid has been recorded at Uranus, though, and the discovery has revealed a lot about the mysterious planet.
Magnetic fields serve an important purpose. They protect a planet's atmosphere from the solar winds that carry harmful radiation. These strong solar winds can stretch a planet's magnetosphere, creating an adorably named "magnetotail" along the trailing side of a planetary body. In the case of Earth's donut-shaped magnetosphere, this tail pinches closed.

April opens with spectacular views of planets in both the morning and evening skies. Early risers who look to the southeast will see Jupiter, brilliant in the predawn darkness. Off to the east of Jupiter, red Mars hangs right below golden Saturn.
But this closeness doesn't last. The very next day, it will be obvious that Saturn has moved away from Mars. In fact, both Saturn and Jupiter are heading westward, away from the red planet. On the 9th, Saturn will be almost exactly midway between Mars, to the left, and Jupiter. By month's end, the gap between Mars and Saturn will have opened to nearly 20 degrees.

Their analysis of WD 1145+017 has been accepted into The Astrophysical Journal , and is available on arXiv. And it could, the researchers say, be applied to future discoveries similar to the white dwarf system to piece together how planets die orbiting different kinds of dead stars.
