The dates for these Canadian rocks are somewhat controversial, but there are a number other rocks that are around 4 billion years old . Rocks on the Moon, likely formed not long after the Earth during a massive collision with another early solar system object, date back to around 4.4 to 4.5 billion years ago .
So what about individual minerals? A whole package of rocks might not survive all the trials and tribulations of plate tectonics, but minerals that get recycled into younger rocks (especially sedimentary rocks) might preserve something even older than the Canadian rocks.

Get out the telescope: All the planets in our solar system are visible in the sky this week
Those interested in stargazing should get out their telescope as there will be ample opportunity to see planets in our November sky.
According to CNN, seven of the planets in our solar system (not including earth) will be visible at various points in the day.
The planets Venus and Mercury can be seen in the mornings, and Mars, Jupiter, Neptune and Saturn can be seen at night. Uranus will also be visible, CNN said.
The article said the visibility of the planets is a natural phenomenon and that it happens every once in a while. The planets happen to be on one side of the sun, but that they will all separate soon.
Solar system may have only taken 200,000 years to form
Cosmic time is often impenetrable when it comes to wrapping our puny human minds around. Consider that the universe is estimated to be approximately 13.8 billion years old and our own solar system is a mere 4.5 billion years old, then try to embrace the fact that humans as we know them have only been on Earth a minute fraction of that broad swath of millennia.

In scrutinizing other stellar systems similar to ours, astronomers came to believe that 1-2 million years is sufficient for the total collapse of a gas cloud and ignition of an infant star. However, this is the first comprehensive study to crunch the numbers on our planet's home turf and orbiting brothers and sisters.
OC Artist Paints Solar System This Week in Ladera Ranch | Orange County, CA Patch
"You cannot teach a man anything, you can only help him find it within himself." — Galileo Galilei, Astronomer
(Ladera Ranch, Ca) — Orange County-based Artist and Muralist Debbie Avoux spent years lovingly teaching children of Ladera to paint, draw and believe in themselves one personalized canvas at a time.
And now — thanks to Ladera Ranch commissioning Avoux this week to paint a solar system of models along a nature trail off of Sea Grape Road and Calliandra Court in Ladera, her artistic talents will reach beyond the stars.

Kansas Electric Co-Ops team up for solar power rate stability
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - 12 Kansas Electric Cooperatives are partnering to develop Sun Farms across 800 miles in the state.
Today's Power says using the sixth cooperative principle of cooperation, 12 co-ops are joining together to make a small investment for the next 25 years to harvest sunshine. It said participating electric cooperatives will be able to produce low-cost solar energy to serve their members through the Kansas Cooperative Sun Power Program and reduce the peak demand.
ATLANTIC SKIES: Saturn isn't the only Lord of the Rings in our solar system |
If you stayed awake in science class the day the solar system was discussed, you know Saturn is circled by a series of concentric rings of material. Called an annular ring, they are composed primarily of countless silica dust and water ice particles (the origin of which is not fully understood), ranging in size from a few micrometers to meters.
Saturn was discovered by Galileo Galilei in 1610. He was the first person to observe the planet using one of the first telescopes ever invented. Viewed from a point well above either the planet's north or south pole, the picture would resemble a multi-ringed dartboard.
SOUTH AFRICA: Abengoa to build a solar system (3.5 MWp) at the Vametco mine | Afrik 21
After seawater desalination, Abengoa is strengthening its position in the energy sector in Africa. The company based in Seville, Spain, has just won the contract to build a solar power plant with battery storage capacity at the Vametco Alloys vanadium mine. The site is operated by the South African mining company Bushveld Minerals in the North West Province.
As part of its new contract, Abengoa will build a 3.5 MWp solar photovoltaic system. The plant will be connected to a 1 MW/4 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Storage System (VRFB BESS) supplied by Enerox Holdings, a subsidiary of Bushveld.
Berlin seeks grant for rooftop solar system | Worcester County News Bayside Gazette
(Nov. 19, 2020) The town of Berlin is hoping for a grant through the Maryland Energy Administration that will allow them to obtain a 23kW rooftop solar system at the electric facility on Schoolfield Street.
ALLY LANASA/BAYSIDE GAZETTE
If the $47,000 grant from the Maryland Energy Administration is approved, Berlin will install a rooftop 23kW solar system on the electric utility facility at 113 Schoolfield St. to provide renewable energy.
"We were the first to submit," Town Administrator Jeff Fleetwood said of the program, the deadline for which was last Friday.
