The discovery: A newly discovered planet about as big around as Jupiter belongs to a system that’s a stunner. The planet orbits two stars and, viewed from Earth, crosses the faces of both.
Night Sky Watching: See 3 Planets Align With The Moon This Week – CBS Boston
BOSTON (CBS) — The autumn evenings are some of the best of the year for sky watching. The clear and crisp nights, void of the summer haze and pollutants, make for amazing conditions to see all kinds of fun things in the nighttime sky.
I've got even more good news: If you miss it Wednesday night, the show will continue for the next several nights.
EarthSky | Planet-observing is easy: Top tips here
This has been a great week for planet-observing! And it’s going to stay good between now and the end of 2021. The moon passed the brightest planet, Venus, earlier this week . And it’ll be sweeping past Jupiter and Saturn tonight and tomorrow (November 10 and 11, 2021).
For the outer planets (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune), the best viewing happens around their yearly oppositions , when Earth is passing between that world and the sun, placing it opposite the sun in our sky. A planet at opposition rises when the sun sets and is visible all night.
Simulations Provide Clue To Missing Planets Mystery – Eurasia Review
A protoplanetary disk as observed by ALMA (left), and a protoplanetary disk during planetary migration, as obtained from the ATERUI II simulation (right).
Forming planets are one possible explanation for the rings and gaps observed in disks of gas and dust around young stars. But this theory has trouble explaining why it is rare to find planets associated with rings.
Tread lightly: 'Eggshell planets' possible around other stars - The Source - Washington
Strange ‘eggshell planets’ are among the rich variety of exoplanets possible, according to a study from Washington University in St. Louis. These rocky worlds have an ultra-thin outer brittle layer and little to no topography.
Only a small subset of extrasolar planets are likely eggshell planets. Planetary geologist Paul Byrne , first author of the new modeling study in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Planets , said at least three such worlds found during previous astronomical surveys may already be known.
Astro Bob: Astronomers find solar system with right-angled planets | Park Rapids Enterprise
Planets and stars form within collapsing clouds of dust and gas. As gravity crunches the material into a smaller space, the cloud's spin increases, and it flattens out.
Our solar system (and many others) formed when an interstellar cloud of gas and dust collapsed under the force of gravity. As it compressed it also spun up and flattened out. Planets congealed from clumps of material within the disk. Contributed / NASA, JPL-Caltech
Check out the alignment of the planets in the evening sky! | WSYR
If you are interested in seeing a cool, celestial line up of the biggest and brightest planets then Wednesday and possibly Thursday evening will be a nice treat for you. Why’s that?
The sky should be clear enough Wednesday evening to provide a good view of Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and the waxing crescent moon all in a line shortly after sunset through the evening in the southern sky .
The ruling planet for each zodiac sign and how it affects you
You may come to it because you want to know more about yourself — or your crush, an enemy or a celebrity. Astrology is a tool that can certainly help us to better understand the archetypes of people and personalities, which is why so many people are once again finding its wisdom of value.
Planets vs Stars: Brightness, Size, and Weight ('Mass') – Exoplanet Exploration: Planets Beyond
This slide illustrates why we can easily see stars in the night sky but not their planets. The slide incorporates a graphic comparison of Brightness, Size, and Weight.
User's notes: This slide is geared toward students in 4 th grade; so it uses a concrete term ("weight") rather than an abstract one ("mass") since most young students are not yet familiar with physics concepts.
Star Trek Proves Why Starships Shouldn't Land On Planets
Starfleet ships are built for deep space operations and Star Trek: Prodigy episode 4 shows why it's a bad idea to land a starship on a planet.
Although most of Star Trek is set in outer space, starships are capable of landing on planets. J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2009 even depicted the USS Enterprise being built in Iowa instead of in an orbital shipyard.
