Planets: An unexpected gas giant is orbiting a massive pair of stars | New Scientist

The twin stars of the most massive planet-hosting star system to date, b Centauri, and its giant planet b Cen (AB)b

A gas giant planet orbiting two stars with a combined mass of at least six times that of our sun is the largest planet-hosting star system ever detected, and may challenge our currents ideas of planetary formation.

How realistic are the terraformed planets of Destiny 2? | Space

Destiny 2’s science fiction future several hundred years from now includes a human race, and a couple sort-of human subspecies, colonizing the solar system at large.

The science behind terraforming is mostly a theoretical science that has not been executed by humankind yet, but has been vastly explored in movies – such as the Alien universe – as well as literature and TV shows, like The Expanse (one of the best sci-fi TV shows based on books ).

Scientists Say We Should Rethink Moons as Planets... And Reinstate Pluto

According to the definition – drafted, tweaked, and agreed upon in August 2006 – an astronomical body is officially a planet if it orbits the Sun, has sufficient mass to be spherical, and has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit.

Under these strictures, only eight bodies in the Solar System can be considered planets: Mercury , Venus , Earth, Mars , Jupiter , Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

Giant planets grow faster than scientists thought | SYFY WIRE

When you were a kid, did you ever wish you could magically grow up? Maybe you would have gotten your wish if you were a planet.

The V1298 Tau system is just 20 million years old (nothing in cosmic terms). However, a team of scientists who observed it were able to find out the masses of two humongous planets that were younger than any other known beasts like that.

Fiery dragon's breath may scorch young planets - HeritageDaily - Archaeology News

Like a dragon of legend, the star EK Draconis has belched out a stream of flaming gas. This is the first time such a supermassive filament eruption has been observed on a Sun-like star.

Since EK Draconis is similar to the Sun in size (but younger), this could indicate that the Sun also produced such supermassive ejections long ago.

What Makes Mercury and Venus Unique Planets?

The solar system was formed from a nebula of dust and gas. It began as an irregular cloud of dust and gas, just floating around; but perhaps a shockwave from a supernova created dense local areas, and those dense areas became the focus of gravitational collapse.

As the dust collapsed, it began to rotate faster and faster, forming a flat disc with a bulging center, and other dust spread out. The central bulge became the Sun, and the flat disc became the planets. The Sun ignites; it sends out heat and solar wind.
