Space technology important tool for a nation, says Isro chairman | Cities News,The Indian Express

Dr S Somanath, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has said space technology is an important tool that a nation needs for a good command on the scientific front.

Somanath was speaking at the National Science Day celebrations, including the virtual tour of the Vainu Bappu Telescope, Kavalur, organised by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru, recently.

Cloud suppliers eye APAC space industry

Major cloud suppliers have cast their sights on Asia-Pacific's space sector, as more organisations in the region look to tap the power of cloud computing in a variety of space technology applications.

In India, for example, a cloud-based decision-making platform is being used to collect intelligence from space satellites to predict disasters, while in Australia, farmers are using Earth observation and sensor data to save water.

Redwire Technology Enabling NOAA Mission for Critical Earth Weather Monitoring

Redwire Corporation (NYSE: RDW), a leader in space infrastructure for the next generation space economy, is supplying critical navigation components for NOAA's GOES-R series of weather-monitoring satellites.

Redwire delivered six Coarse Sun Sensor (CSS) pyramids and a Fine Sun Sensor Assembly, consisting of a high accuracy Fine Sun Sensor Head and an electronics processing unit. These were provided under a 2015 contract with Lockheed Martin.

Nasa opens Phase 2 of $5m Lunar Power Prize Competition

Nasa has opened the Second Phase of its $5 million Lunar Power Prize Competition, which is dubbed Watts On The Moon.

Basically, it is seeking innovative technologies for energy distribution, management, and/or storage that can be developed for space flight and future operations on the Moon's surface.

NASA Drone: NASA's new bird-like drones might explore Venus' atmosphere

All of the selected concepts are still very much in their early stages of development, and not yet considered official NASA missions.

The bird-like drone forms part of NASA's  Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program whose purpose is to fund early-stage studies to evaluate technologies that could support future aeronautics and space missions.

The Urgency To Cyber-Secure Space Assets
