These are all the planets that the James Webb Space Telescope has observed so far | Salon.com

When the James Webb Space Telescope revealed its first five images to the public in July, the scientific community was amazed. The ambitious project had involved decades of work , and it had paid off with some of the most detailed images of the distant universe ever put together.

Elusive newborn planets may create tell tale signs with their gravity, scientists say | The ...

Scientists may have uncovered a way to detect elusive newborn planets hiding in the disks around young stars, and it's based on the same gravitational phenomenon that allows the James Webb Space Telescope to remain at a stable position in deep space.

Researchers at Harvard's Center for Astrophysics have detected a likely newborn exoplanet about the size of Saturn around a star 518 light years away in the constellation Taurus, as seen from Earth.

How massive stars steal planets – new research | Tech News

Our Sun has a rather lonely existence in the Milky Way galaxy . It sits on its own, four light years away from the nearest star, with only its planetary system for company. But it wasn't always like this.

Our new paper, published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, shows how massive stars in such stellar nurseries can steal planets away from each other – and what the signs of such theft are.

Twisted Magnetic Fields Can Reveal How Protobinary Systems, Tatooine Planets Form - SpaceRef

Circumbinary planets – planets that orbit around two stars, like the fictional Star Wars planet Tatooine and its two suns – exist in the Universe, and are sometimes referred to as Tatooine planets.

Researchers using the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, (SOFIA) observed, along with several other observations, a 45-degree twist in the magnetic field of protobinary system L483.

A newly-discovered planet that is half-water, half-rock is straight out of science fiction | ...

Since the 1990s, scientists have cataloged thousands of planets outside our solar system, called exoplanets . Some of these are massive and gaseous, while others are tiny and rocky like our home world.

There are four main types of exoplanets: Neptunian, gas giant, super-Earth and terrestrial. It's not easy spotting these planets directly, let alone figuring out what they're made of.

Neptune Is at Opposition, But What Does That Mean? | HowStuffWorks

Mercury, for instance, doesn't have nearly as far to travel as Earth, and Earth doesn't have as far to go as Saturn. None of the planets travel the distance Neptune has to.

Earth and its closest neighbor, Mars , have such similar orbital speeds that Earth paces Mars every 27 months for a planetary opposition. And, because Mercury and Venus are located between the sun and Earth's orbit, Earth will never be in planetary opposition with them.
