Studying a galaxy from the inside can be a tricky thing, but astronomers have still managed to learn a great deal about our own Milky Way. One of the things scientists think they know about our galaxy — and many other galaxies like our own — is that they revolve around a black hole.
In the case of the Milky Way, the object in the center of the galaxy is believed to be a supermassive black hole and that's not uncommon.
However, as astrophysicist Smadar Naoz writes, recent observations hint at the possibility that the black hole scientists believe resides at the location known as Sgr A* (the center of our galaxy) has a friend.

NASA photo reveals star formation sparked by distant supermassive black hole - Axios
Details: A radio jet emitted by the black hole likely heated up a bubble of hot gas, causing it to expand and creating a shock wave that sparked star formation in other galaxies.

The name of the conference I find myself attending kindles images from those bizarre childhood memories. But luckily, attendees at TEXAS 2019 are not sporting cowboy boots or questionable American Indian costumes. They are physicists from all over the world, meeting at the beautiful Guildhall venue in the heart of Portsmouth, UK , to hear about and discuss the latest discoveries in fields related to the relativistic theory of gravitation and cosmology.
Though the first day is not yet over as I write – with a number of in-depth parallel sessions still ongoing – there has already been plenty for conferencegoers to talk about. For instance, the morning's plenary talks began with a bang as University of Arizona's Dimitrios Psaltis got straight into the most talked about news from astrophysics this year – the first-ever picture of a black hole, which last week bagged the Physics World Breakthrough of the Year award for 2019 .

The FAI's finances are akin to a 'black hole' that are being propped up by UEFA, according to Oireachtas committee chair Fergus O'Dowd.
O'Dowd spoke to Off The Ball following Shane Ross' appearance in front of the Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport regarding the FAI's disastrous financial affairs.
"It is very serious. We don't actually know the extent of their debts because the auditor couldn't sign off on their accounts for the last year. So it is a black hole, in many respects," said O'Dowd.
