UFO sightings: The top 5 states where the aliens are flying through

That's one way, anyway, to interpret the results from a new report on the states with the most unidentified flying object sightings per capita. Washington state topped that list, followed in order by Montana, Vermont, Alaska and Maine.

* * *

So much for Roswell, New Mexico, or the lonely Nevada desert. New Mexico came in 8th on the list; Nevada, 13th.

Meanwhile, the states with the fewest UFO sightings per capita — Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama -- are all down South.

What's Really Going On at Area 51: Maybe the Biggest UFO Party on Earth - WSJ

RACHEL, Nev.—Glenn Kaminsky put up a booth at the recent Bigfoot Daze festival in Willow Creek, Calif., to promote an invasion of Area 51, or at least a party in the same desert neighborhood.

The secretive Nevada military facility, long suspected of hiding extraterrestrials and their space ships, is ground zero for a coming assembly of UFO enthusiasts seeking close encounters with fellow travelers.

UFOs Are Real, But Don't Assume They're Alien Spaceships | Space

UFOs are very real, as we have recently seen — but that doesn't mean E.T. has been violating our airspace.

"UFO" refers to any flying object an observer cannot readily identify. And pilots with the U.S. Navy saw fast-moving UFOs repeatedly off the East Coast throughout 2014 and 2015, in one case apparently nearly colliding with one of the mysterious objects, The New York Times reported earlier this week.

The Neveda Town Where Storm Area 51 Sort Of Happened | WIRED

"I knew there wasn't much there, but there was even less than I had imagined," Koopmans says. The closest town, Rachel, has a population of around 50 people. Other than one alien-themed restaurant and bar, the Little A'Le'Inn, there's little for outsiders to do—this isn't Roswell. Most of the residents Koopmans met just wanted to be left alone. "People move out there for a reason," Koopmans says. "They were nice, but it's not a super-inviting place."

Navy confirms videos did capture UFO sightings, but it calls them by another name

Three videos posted online that have been described as being related to UFO sightings do indeed include footage of "unidentified aerial phenomena," a U.S. Navy spokesman confirmed.

But as for specifics, spokesman Joseph Gradisher said the Navy doesn't know exactly what the objects are.

The website The Black Vault last week first reported the Navy's "unidentified aerial phenomena" designation and said the three videos are commonly known as "FLIR1," "Gimbal" and "GoFast."

Area 51: A deep dive into aliens, UFOs, and conspiracy

The term "UFO" was coined in 1953 by the United States Air Force. Over the years it's come to include many things people have seen in the sky.

For decades, "Area 51" in the deserts of Nevada has been shrouded in mystery with rumors that alien secrets are held inside.

"It wasn't acknowledged until 2013 that Area 51 truly existed," Barry Lewis Roth with the Colorado Mutual UFO Network said.

'Wow, What Is That?' Navy Pilots Report Unexplained Flying Objects - The New York Times

WASHINGTON — The strange objects, one of them like a spinning top moving against the wind, appeared almost daily from the summer of 2014 to March 2015, high in the skies over the East Coast. Navy pilots reported to their superiors that the objects had no visible engine or infrared exhaust plumes, but that they could reach 30,000 feet and hypersonic speeds.

In late 2014, a Super Hornet pilot had a near collision with one of the objects, and an official mishap report was filed. Some of the incidents were videotaped, including one taken by a plane's camera in early 2015 that shows an object zooming over the ocean waves as pilots question what they are watching.

Army partners with former Blink-182 founder's UFO research company to study alien technology

Much like the universe, the military's affiliation with alien-related subject matter appears to be ever-expanding.

In 2017, the Pentagon confirmed the existence of a program that existed from 2007 to 2012, the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, that was dedicated solely to investigating reports of UFO sightings.

This April, the Navy confirmed it was drafting a fleet-wide message to establish guidelines for pilots and other military personnel to report UFO sightings, the culmination of a surge in what the Navy called a series of intrusions by advanced aircraft on Navy carrier strike groups.
