From 1969 to 1972, 12 astronauts walked on the Moon as part of NASA's Apollo program . Humans have not been back since, and the Moon remains the only world besides Earth we've ever visited. The Moon lacks an Earth-like atmosphere, and there is no wind or water to erase the Apollo astronauts' footprints. The paths they walked can still be seen from orbit —permanent monuments to one of humanity's greatest achievements.
There is water ice hidden in permanently shadowed craters at the Moon's poles. Studying the ice could help us understand where our own planet's water came from. The ice is also a potential resource for future human explorers: it could be harvested for breathable air, drinking water, and rocket propellant.

Want to walk on the moon? Head to Jacksboro for a high-tech, out-of-this world journey | wfaa.com
JACKSBORO, Texas — Ever since newer and nicer facilities were built, the old athletic facilities off of Highway 59 in Jacksboro have been in a permanent off-season.
Overgrown and broken, city officials had no idea what to do with all the vacant land for nearly a decade, until a company came forward with a suggestion that was out of left field.
"We thought it was a crazy idea, but we've grown into it and recognized it's something positive," said Jacksboro city manager Mike Smith.
REVIEW: Stages Shoots for the Stars While Tackling Earthly Issues in "Pieces of the
As a radio play, Stages' entire production is dependent on sound. There's no stage, no body language, and no facial expressions, and Brendan Aanes's sound design rises to the challenge, highlighting the show's pastiche of history—especially the history of the Apollo 11 space launch—biography, and music, through an overlapping multi-source soundscape to stunning results.

While the play is billed as "an exploration of two Americas told through the true stories of the three Apollo 11 astronauts and the magnificent artistry of Gil Scott-Heron," the astronaut stories seem more like a chorus or backdrop, with the focus on Scott-Heron.

July is a grand time of year to learn to recognize the constellation Scorpius the Scorpion. If you’re in the city – with no dark sky – you probably won’t see the entire constellation. But you can still see the star that represents the Scorpion’s Heart, a bright red star called Antares . Our chart shows the nights of July 27, 28 and 29, 2020, when the moon will approaching this star and then passing it. Watch for the moon on these nights!

Moon cherries can turn the tide of slow sales
Starting to pack the last week of July, Stemilt's A Half Mile Closer to the Moon premium high-altitude cherries are projected to last through the month of August. Stemilt's senior marketing manager, Brianna Shales, said Moon Cherries are a great way for retailers to end the season strong and leave consumers feeling delighted about their eating experience.
"The grand finale to cherry season is here and these cherries have impeccable flavor, wonderful aromatics, and a great balance of acids and sugars," said Shales. "Fourth-generation Stemilt cherry grower, Kyle Mathison, once again proves his skill in growing the biggest and sweetest cherries in the Northwest."

Starwatch: full moon joins Jupiter and Saturn in southern sky | Science | The Guardian
When full, the moon rises at sunset and spends the entire night in the sky, so the grouping will be visible during all the hours of darkness. The chart shows the view looking due south from London at midnight on 2 August, which is as Saturday becomes Sunday.
As you look at the grouping, you are essentially seeing the closest celestial object to the Earth (the moon) and the further that can be easily seen with the naked eye (Saturn). Uranus can just be seen with the unaided eye under excellent viewing conditions.
Mike Scott of the Waterboys: how we made The Whole of the Moon | Music | The Guardian
I was in Manhattan with my girlfriend, Krista. She asked: "Is it easy to write songs?" In my 20s I hadn't yet grown out of the urge to show off to a new girlfriend, so I said: "Yes it is!" I pulled a pen and a piece of paper out of my pocket. There was a moon in the sky, so I wrote down: "I saw the crescent, you saw the whole of the moon." She was duly impressed.
I grew up in Melbourne; in my early 20s London was my great escape. Everyone I met seemed to be an artist or musician. I answered an ad in Melody Maker to join a band, and the bass player was sharing a flat with Anto from the Waterboys.
