WASHINGTON — If "the truth is out there," as the tag line for the old "X-Files" TV series insisted, it might just be flying across Northwest Florida skies — and the government wants to know about it.
Earlier this month, the Department of Defense (DoD), under some pressure from Congress in the wake of sightings of thus-far unidentified flying objects in military airspace, established an Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Task Force.

In the dry words of a Department of Defense news release, the department established the task force "... to improve its understanding of, and gain insight into, the nature and origins of UAPs." But, perhaps more than just improving its understanding of UAPs, the task force wants "to detect, analyze and catalog UAPs that could potentially pose a threat to U.S. national security."

An interesting news story among the flurry of reports about the COVID-19 pandemic was largely overlooked, but to those of us who remain fascinated with UFO sightings it was quite a revelation.
The Pentagon officially released three short videos showing unidentified aerial phenomena that had previously been released by a private company.
The videos showed what appeared to be UFOs rapidly moving while being recorded by infrared cameras. Two of the videos feature military pilots reacting incredulously at how fast these objects were moving. The U.S. Navy released the videos officially in March after previously acknowledging them last September.

Is it vindication at last? The New York Times has recently reported that a supposedly canceled Pentagon project to investigate strange aerial phenomena is still showing a pulse. The clandestine effort, originally known as the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, was said to have ended in 2012. But, apparently, it's still doing its thing under the auspices of the U.S. Office of Naval Intelligence, and with a new name: the Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Task Force.

A Russian cosmonaut has spotted 5 UFOs moving over the Earth's southern hemisphere and the flying objects were apparently filmed with an incredible backdrop in the form of the "Aurora Australis". The Russian cosmonaut named Ivan Vagner captured the five UFOs while he was filming a time-lapse video of the aurora borealis. The video has been sent for analysis.
According to the spokesperson for the Russian space agency (Roscosmos), Vladimir Ustimenko, the footage was found to be so intriguing that was sent to experts for an analysis. “It is too early to make conclusions until our Roscosmos researchers and scientists at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences tell us what they think,” Ustimenko said in a statement.

UFOs have been back in the news because of videos initially leaked , and later confirmed , by the U.S. Navy and officially released by Pentagon that purportedly show "unidentified aerial phenomena" (UAP) in our skies. Speculations about their nature have run the gamut from mundane objects like birds or balloons to visitors from outer space.
It’s difficult, if not impossible, to say what these actually are, however, without context. What happened before and after these video snippets? Were there any simultaneous observations from other instruments, or sightings by pilots?

On April 27, the U.S. Department of Defense officially released three videos of UFOs recorded by U.S. Navy pilots along with a statement. This quickly became some of the biggest news of 2020, besides the pandemic.
The UFO footage accumulated a great amount of excitement in people all over the internet. Some went as far as to make claims on Twitter such as "a few days ago the US Navy literally confirmed aliens exist." #Aliensexist was trending on twitter and an uncountable amount of articles were written about the matter.
