SpaceX is developing its next-generation Starship rocket to one day launch dozens of people to space, but CEO Elon Musk emphasized that the rocket has many milestones to go before it can take passengers.
"We've got to first make the thing work; automatically deliver satellites and do hundreds of missions with satellites before we put people on board," Musk said, speaking Monday at the virtual "Humans to Mars" conference.
"We're making good progress," Musk said. "The thing that really impedes progress on Starship is the production system ... A year ago there was nothing there and now we've got quite a lot of production capability. So we're rapidly making more and more ships."

Paintings will be tempered in space on Blue Origin rocket ship
Uplift Aerospace and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket venture plan to put paintings where virtually no art has gone before: on the side of a rocket ship.
The "canvases" for these works are exterior panels that will be mounted on Blue Origin's suborbital New Shepard spaceship, sent to the space frontier during an uncrewed test flight, then returned to Earth for delivery to the paintings' purchasers .
Two Utah artists known for their realist and surrealist paintings — Jeff Hein and Mark R. Pugh — will come up with creations that are meant to weather the aerodynamically challenging ascent and descent through the atmosphere. Uplift Aerospace has conducted tests to ensure that the paint's adhesion, integrity and relative coloration will endure the rigors of space travel. But the tests also suggest that the trip will alter the art. And that's OK.

The 12-year-old space enthusiast and sixth-grader at Bloom-Carroll Middle School recently attended Space Camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, and graduated from the program with honors.

Austin was on a team that flew a simulated space mission to a space station orbiting the moon and was in a simulator that showed him what the moon's 1/6 gravity compared to earth feels like. Austin and his classmates also had a space trivia contest.

Contest Shoots to Get Girls' Focus on Stars, Science

Now, a collaboration between the nonprofit group Space Kids Global and the Girl Scouts is giving girls a chance to create ideas that could be sent up into space next year. The groups are hopeful it will inspire young girls to dream big, too, when it comes to careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields.
