There Could Be Planets That Orbit 3 Stars, Say Scientists Studying Orion’s ‘Tatooine-Style’ Star

In our Solar System the eight known planets formed in a flat disk of dust and gas around a single star.

However, new research suggests that's not always how star systems and planets form in the Milky Way. Multiple star systems are common, which could cause "disk tearing" that creates planets with distant, chaotic orbits.

Four Bright Planets To Shine In The September Night Sky

If you get a nice evening with clear skies and low humidity, then you may get an out of this world show.

Several planets will grace the night sky through the month of September. Jupiter and Saturn will be visible starting at dusk in the southern sky.

That is because these two worlds remain bright and beautiful throughout September yet appear highest up for the night right around nightfall.

If you notice just one bright object in the sky after sunset, it might be the very bright Jupiter. This planet outshines all the stars, plus it is near another bright planet, Saturn. You cannot miss these two if the skies are clear.

How do planets form? | Astronomy.com

How long does it take planets to form in solar systems? Since 2014, tens of thousands of volunteers have helped NASA try to answer this question by looking at telescope images of solar systems as their protoplanetary disks are still forming.

NASA’s Disk Detectives is a citizen science project that enlists members of the public to help analyze data. It was designed to discover disks of gas, rock and dust circling other stars. These structures appear early on in planet formation. So, peering into a planetary disk is like looking at a baby photo of a future solar system.

Industrial waste can turn planet-warming carbon dioxide into stone | Science | AAAS

At Gahcho Kué, a sprawling diamond mine in Canada's Northwest Territories, researchers are attempting to use the mine's crushed rock waste to trap carbon dioxide for eternity.

In July 2019, Gregory Dipple, a geologist at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, hopped on a 119-seat charter flight in Yellowknife, Canada, and flew 280 kilometers northeast to the Gahcho Kué diamond mine, just south of the Arctic Circle. Gahcho Kué, which means "place of the big rabbits" in the Dënësu¸łinë language of the region's native Dené or Chipewyan people, is an expansive open pit mine ringed by sky-blue lakes.
