Asteroid 2018 VP1 will zoom past Earth on November 2, one day before Americans vote for the next president. In a year where unpredictable disasters have seemingly become routine, NASA is working hard to calm fears of a potential collision.
According to the space agency, even if this asteroid did hit Earth's atmosphere, it would be too small to do any damage.
"Asteroid 2018VP1 is very small, approx. 6.5 feet, and poses no threat to Earth!," NASA Asteroid Watch tweeted Sunday. "It currently has a 0.41% chance of entering our planet's atmosphere, but if it did, it would disintegrate due to its extremely small size."

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory under NASA has revealed three dates when the Earth will experience five close approaches from 5 objects that are going to pass through Earth. These approaches are much closer than we have ever expected. NASA uses its Asteroid Watch Widget to track this upcoming near approach and determines the distance.

According to NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory at California Institute of Technology, 5 objects are going to pass through Earth within the 4.6 million miles distance. The average distance between Earth and the moon is about 239,000 miles i.e. 385,000 kilometres. In the image below, one can see the date of closest approach, the approximate size of the objects and the distance of their path from Earth.

Asteroid 2020 QL2 that could be up to 120 meters (394 feet) in diameter is expected to safely fly past Earth on September 14, as per NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS). The asteroid is expected to fly past at a speed of nearly 38,620 kmph (24,000 mph) and come within a distance of 6.8 million kms (4.2 million miles). The asteroid could be as big as the iconic London Eye or bigger than a professional football field.
The asteroid's size could be anywhere between 53 meters (174 feet) and 120 meters, according to NASA . This makes it one of the potentially largest rocks on the space agency's Near-Earth Object (NEO) Earth Close Approaches list. Asteroid 2020 QL2 is currently travelling at 10.5 kilometres per second (6.52 miles per second).

A space rock known as 2020 RW has been described by NASA as a near Earth object (NEO) and is making its way by our planet. NASA has said there is no chance the asteroid, which has a diameter between 30 metres and 56 metres, will not hit our planet, but the space agency will use its close proximity to Earth to study the history of the solar system.
If the asteroid is at the upper end of the scale, it would make the asteroid almost five times as long as a double-decker bus.
