And as humans are experiencing record job losses and economic uncertainty, robots have become a hot commodity. Multiple technology manufacturers have reported increased demand for their bots over the course of the pandemic, from drone-like machines that can roam hallways to make deliveries and AI-powered customer service software to increased use of self-service checkouts at supermarkets.
"The cost [of automation] is coming down, the technology is getting better and we are seeing innovation working effectively in other parts of the world that we can transfer here," Swidler said, citing Alibaba's FlyZoo hotel that is staffed nearly entirely by technology, from check-in to room service.

Robots are taking over our jobs—but is that a bad thing? – TechTalks
With the UK workforce already struggling to keep pace with technological advances, does the relentless march of “automation everywhere” mean that pretty soon many of us may find ourselves entirely displaced by robots ? Should we fear for our jobs – or will we just get better ones?
No new technology has ever created unemployment, in anything but the shortest term. Rather, technologies have only served to make mankind more productive, and artificial intelligence may provide the biggest productivity boost of all, since it applies machine leverage to our mental tasks.
The best robot vacuums for 2020: Neato, iRobot Roomba, Eufy, Electrolux and more - CNET
Despite all this sophistication, however, none of these machines can really replace a mop and human exertion.
To choose the best robot vacuum, I spent over 120 hours (that's a lot of time) torture-testing a group of 12 robotic cleaning vacuums for things like suction power, their ability to perform on carpets and hard flooring, and how well they performed during each cleaning cycle. Among them are brand-new models that have recently launched, flagship models, and compelling options offered across numerous online retailers. I excluded older models that likely won't be sold for much longer.

Recycling robotics company AMP Robotics could raise up to $70M – TechCrunch
AMP Robotics , the recycling robotics technology developer backed by investors including Sequoia Capital and Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners , is close to closing on as much as $70 million in new financing, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the company’s plans.
Earlier this month the company announced a new deal that represented its largest purchase order for its trash-sorting and recycling robots.

That comes on the back of a pilot program earlier in the year with one Toronto apartment complex, where the complex’s tenants were able to opt into a program that would share with the building’s renters recycling habits monitored by AMP Robotics in an effort to improve their recycling behavior.

Robots And AI Can 10X Productivity. Here's Why That Might Be Good For Workers
InVia sells robot productivity, not robots per se: RaaS, or robots as a service. It's a management platform, a set of machine learning modules for continual improvement, and yes, actual physical warehouse robots. Together, they promise a huge increase in e-commerce shipping fulfillment right when we need it most: Corona time.
With RaaS, adding robots to your warehouse is now not a multi-million-dollar outlay: it's a fits-on-a-credit-card monthly bill (at least for a starter version). And in a time when we're increasingly demanding one-day or same-day delivery, it works for relatively small distributed warehouses as well as million-square-foot regional distribution centers.
