It's going where no Super Bowl ad has gone before. Fans watching the game Sunday learned how they can win a trip into orbit aboard the first all-civilian spaceflight later this year.

The ad for Inspiration4 , a SpaceX supported mission that will launch in late 2021, aired during the first quarter of the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The commercial shows shots of the SpaceX astronaut uniform in space to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" (sung by British-Jamaican singer Celeste) and is directed by Bryce Dallas Howard who has recently directed episodes of the Disney+ Star Wars series "The Mandalorian."

Imagining Faster-Than-Light Travel | National Air and Space Museum

The idea that characters can fly from planet to planet, or star to star, defying current science and technology, is central to science fiction. Although some of these ideas predated the space age, after the 1950s, fictional depictions of space travel needed to suggest conceivable ways to cross interstellar distances to seem plausible. Some authors suggested faster-than-light drives, hyper drives, jump drives, worm holes, and black holes.

Scientific understanding of light speed as an absolute natural limit derives from Albert Einstein's publications on special relativity in 1905, confirmed by his work on general relativity in 1916. In classical physics, speed has no limits. But relativistic theory shows that mass increases with acceleration until mass becomes infinite at light speed. Yet author E. E. "Doc" Smith imagined spaceships traveling faster than the speed of light in his "Skylark of Space" stories.

Mars set for visits from UAE, China and U.S. spacecraft

Three spacecraft carrying the ambitions and anxieties of three different countries' space agencies are set to arrive at Mars this month, beginning what scientists hope could be a new wave of exploration of the red planet.

The flurry of activity began Tuesday, as the United Arab Emirates' Hope probe entered into orbit around Mars, making the UAE only the fifth nation or entity to achieve such a feat. Less than 24 hours later, an orbiter and rover launched by China's space agency are expected to arrive at the red planet. And NASA's Perseverance rover , a much-anticipated follow-up act to the Curiosity rover, will attempt to touch down on the Martian surface Feb. 18.

"We have had two very, very big and powerful competitors in Elon [Musk] and Jeff [Bezos], and they are all doing something slightly different. If you put the three projects together in one, I think we can all achieve something pretty incredible, and some pretty incredible things," Branson said.

Spaceborne Computer-2 is scheduled to launch into orbit on the 15 th Northrop Grumman Resupply Mission to Space Station (NG-15) on February 20 and be available for use on the International Space Station for the next 2-3 years.

The proof-of-concept addressed the need for more reliable computing capabilities on the ISS, or low Earth orbit (LEO), that were previously impossible to achieve due to the ISS's harsh environment of zero gravity and high levels of radiation that can damage IT equipment required to host computing technologies.

Mars: Second of three missions to reach the Red Planet today - here's what you need to know |

An orbiter and lander launched by China is today set to be the second of three space missions to reach Mars this month.

The Tianwen-1 orbiter will enter into Martian orbit later today before releasing its lander in a few months time.

It joins the UAE space probe Hope which reached Mars yesterday, and will be passed by NASA's Perseverance rover on 18 February which will be the first to land on the Red Planet's surface, with all three spacecraft having spent seven months in space.
