The TRAPPIST-1 solar system not bombarded by space rocks like early Earth, study suggests | Space
TRAPPIST-1 would be an unremarkable star if not for the scientific interest generated by its seven planets.
Astronomers first spotted the new worlds, at least three of which might be habitable, in 2016. Now, a new study suggests that the way the TRAPPIST-1 planets orbit might reveal clues about their evolution and how frequently space rocks smashed into them in their formative years.

Europe's Solar Orbiter will fly by Earth tonight. Here's how to spot it in the night sky. | Space
The European Space Agency's Solar Orbiter spacecraft passes above Earth tonight (Nov. 26) and might be visible from parts of the U.S. and western Africa with either simple binoculars or an amateur telescope.
The spacecraft, which will have to fly through areas of Earth's orbit with the highest concentration of space debris , will get as close as 285 miles (460 kilometers) from Earth's surface during the flyby.
Health risks of space tourism: Is it responsible to send humans to Mars? | TheHill
The hazards from energetic particles have been known since the early days of space exploration. On Earth, humans are protected from these charged particles, which originate from the Sun and our Milky Way galaxy. Earth is shielded by its magnetic field and atmosphere.
Human astronauts outside the Earth's magnetic "womb" get zapped by solar energetic particles, mostly during sporadic solar flares that last from minutes to hours. Such flares are prominent when the sun is "active", namely during solar maxima in its 11-year cycle of surface activity.
NASA's Planetary-Defense Mission Is on Its Way to an Asteroid - The Atlantic
And, thankfully, most of us don't have to! Earth is not in immediate threat of a space rock. The chance that a known asteroid big enough to really do damage—or, you know, imperil our entire existence—will strike the planet in the next 100 years is insignificant .
But it helps to be prepared for these kinds of scenarios, and luckily there are people for whom thinking about them is a full-time job.
