NASA spacecraft at the moon snaps photo of Saturn from lunar orbit | Space

Just because a spacecraft is sent to study the moon doesn't mean it can't do a little extra skywatching now and then.

NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has been circling the moon since 2009. But a new image NASA shared on Monday (Nov. 22) from the spacecraft shows a very different destination: Saturn , complete with the planet's stunning rings.

Sechelt Skies: Sun, Earth and moon align for awesome tides - Coast Reporter

The new moon will occur very early on Dec. 4 and will pass below Venus, less than three degrees away, then by Saturn and Jupiter successively Dec. 7 through Dec. 9.

By about Christmas Day, Venus will appear lower in the southwest just after sunset as it heads west to pass between us and the sun (inferior conjunction) on Jan. 8. Mercury will join Venus over the next two weeks as Mercury moves east and out from behind the sun.

Scientists Model What Would Happen if a Mini Black Hole Punched Through the Moon

According to a theory proposed by Bernard Carr and Stephen Hawking in the 1970s, the conditions just after the Big Bang were so energetic, the matter so tightly packed, that density fluctuations in the primordial soup collapsed into black holes of all sizes.

On one end of the spectrum, the ancestors of supermassive black holes emerged—on the other end, tiny black holes, some no larger than atoms.

Walter Scott: Full moon on driveway puts watchdog on edge | West Central Tribune

A lunatic is defined as someone that is insane or with a severely disordered state of mind. In ancient times, the condition was thought to be caused by phases of the moon. Last week, we had a dog that seemed to be on that lunatic fringe.

Billie, the standard poodle, is normally a reliable watchdog. He barks to alert us when someone is coming down the driveway and will back a person he deems a threat up against the wall.
